  Committees

 

Committees are an imiportant way in which members build the strength of the Union. See below for the Standing Committees, including the Bylaws Committee, and the Election Committee.


Standing Committees

The following are the ten standing committees of the Local, as defined in Article 11 of the Local's bylaws.  The Bylaws Committee is an elected body while all other committee members are appointed by the Joint Council.

Citizenship & Legislative
Description: The Citizenship and Legislative Committee works to protect our interests as workers and students in Scramento and beyond.

Civil Rights
Description: The Civil Rights Committee promotes fair employment practices and endeavors to eliminate discrimination affecting the welfare of our members, the Union, and the labor movement.

Community Services
Description: The Community Services Committee puts Academic Student labor in touch with our local communities.

Conservation/Recreation
Description: Working to protect our natural resources.

Consumer Affairs/Union Label
Description: The Union Label Committee provides guidance on the importance of and how to buy Union made products and services.

Education
Description: The Education Committee informs members of their rights.
Chair: rotates

Health and Safety
Description: The Health and Safety Committee works to inform members of healthy and safe working conditions.

Veteran's
Description: The Veteran's Committee works on issues affecting members who are veterans of the armed services.

Women's
Description: The Women's Committee works on issues of pay equity and fair treatment for women at work.
Chair: rotates

Bylaws
Description: The Bylaws Committee consists of one (1) member from each Campus Unit and is elected by the members of the Campus Unit for a term of one (1) year.

Election Committee

The Election Committee is responsible for running all Local Union elections, including elections, strike votes, and contract ratification votes. The Election Committee is responsible for the publication of notice for nominations and elections, the verification of eligibility for candidates, the organization and supervision of election proceedings, and the counting of ballots.

The Election Committee consists of one (1) Election Committee Member and one (1) Alternate Committee Member from each Campus Unit who are elected by members of that Campus Unit to serve a one (1) year term. The full duties of the Election Committee are defined in Article 13 of the Local's Bylaws.
